ELECTRI International Launches Transmission & Distribution Enterprise

Over the years, NECA’s line contractors and Line Chapters have expressed interest in commissioning critical research and education projects that are important to their sector of the industry.

The Foundation Trustees and current ELECTRI Council leaders recognize the value of providing a “home” for line constructors inside the ELECTRI International Research Center to address issues such as

  • safety best practices
  • new technologies and how they impact training & skill requirements
  • manpower supervision education
  • product innovation
  • new market – business development opportunities
  • ways to identify characteristics of a good line worker
  • ways to market job opportunities to attract and retain quality line employees
  • equipment costs
  • best use of available capital

To fund this portfolio of projects, new gifts from line contractors, their chapters, industry partners and utilities will be dedicated to the ELECTRI International Transmission & Distribution Enterprise. The balance of any current pledge from Line Contractors and/or Line Chapters can also be earmarked for the T & D Enterprise. The annual yield from this fund will be used exclusively for projects that are important to Transmission and Distribution companies. The Foundation has already started a series of meetings with leaders from the line industry to secure their endorsement and financial commitments for this effort.

Line contractors and Line Chapters will continue to participate in the full range of ELECTRI Council activities and votes. More importantly, they will have the opportunity to recommend and select specific projects that are designed for the T & D portion of the industry. Contributors to the T & D Enterprise will name their own Advisory Committee to identify areas that should be researched and to help with the project evaluation and selection process.  Four Line Chapters (American Line Builders, Northeastern Line, Southeastern Line, and Western Line) each have a seat on the ELECTRI Council.  Missouri Valley Line, Northwest Line, and Southwestern Line Constructors have also made chapter contributions to the Foundation.
