Green Energy Challenge Set for 2013

NECA Student Chapter teams will be invited to conduct an energy audit of a parking structure on campus or in the neighboring community. The 250+ space structure may be stand alone or part of a larger facility, either above-ground or underground. The technical scope of the challenge includes lighting fixture and controls retrofit. In addition, teams will be challenged to integrate renewable energy and/or electric vehicle charging deemed appropriate by the team and facility owner, as well as additional electrical or mechanical improvements appropriate to the facility. An emphasis will also be placed on the construction planning and management ofthe project.

Student Chapter teams must register for the 2013 competition by January 25, 2013. The 2013 competition calendar includes the following key dates:

  • February 1, 2013 - ELECTRI will hold a conference call to review the Green energy competition process with registered teams
  • March 15, 2013 - Pre-proposals, including project assessment and background are due at ELECTRI
  • May 10, 2013 - Full proposals are due at ELECTRI
  • July 12, 2013 - The Green Energy Challenge Competition Jury will announce the finalist teams
  • October 12, 2013 - Oral project presentations by finalist student teams at the NECA Convention in Washington, DC
