Press Release

The Wendt Award is the highest tribute bestowed by ELECTRI International – The Foundation for Electrical Construction. The Award recognizes exemplary leadership and service to the electrical industry and is named in honor of the philosophical and financial commitments made to the electrical contracting industry by one of its premier members, the late Albert G. Wendt, former president of Cannon & Wendt Electric in Phoenix, Arizona.

This year’s highly deserving recipient, Darrell Gossett, is so honored for his leadership as 2011 and 2012 Chair of the ELECTRI Council, for his service as a member of ELECTRI International’s Board of Trustees, and for his continuing efforts to enlist financial support for ELECTRI’s programs and projects. Mr. Gossett joined the ELECTRI International Council in 2006 at the Founder level. Since then, he has helped advance the Foundation’s program through his leadership in resource development and by providing astute guidance in the creation and coordination of ELECTRI’s programs and research agenda.

During his term as Council Chair, ELECTRI has attracted more than $2.6 million in new commitments, thanks to Mr. Gossett’s outstanding efforts to encourage industry members to join him in support of ELECTRI’s research and educational agenda. He has been instrumental in increasing participation in ELECTRI by electrical manufacturers, distributors and industry allies, especially building upon his participation in the Electric Roundtable, a peer group of exemplary electrical contractors across the country.

Darrell Gossett is president of ERMCO, an Indianapolis-based electrical and communications firm. Under his leadership, the company, founded by his father, has grown from a small service provider to Indiana’s largest signatory electrical contractor and one of the 50 largest in the United States. Darrell Gossett has applied the same far-sighted wisdom and drive to expand success in his service to NECA, including his role as president of the Central Indiana Chapter and as a member of NECA’s Political Leadership Council. He is active and well respected in the larger electrical industry and within his community.

Darrell Gossett’s enthusiastic support for ELECTRI’s Talent Initiative deserves special commendation. As part of a multifaceted approach to help meet the industry’s need for well-prepared managers and leaders, the Talent Initiative works to attract the “best and brightest” construction management interns and graduates to electrical construction. In addition to providing and encouraging monetary support to help achieve this goal, Darrell Gossett has also provided strong leadership and solid advice to ensure the development of the Talent Initiative’s programs and services working with NECA Student Chapters at outstanding universities throughout the United States.

Just as ELECTRI International’s ambitious agenda has benefitted from Mr. Gossett’s astute judgment, so have his colleagues gained from his keen insights. Leading by example with his years of dedicated service in far-ranging activities, Darrell Gossett has proven himself worthy of the Wendt Award and of his industry’s enthusiastic gratitude.
